Experience:
Bob Johnson is a nationally recognized spearing fish decoy carver who has
several world titles to his credit. Bob's knowledge, and passion, for the
sport of northern pike spearing is evident both through the multiple carving
awards he's won and the state spearing organizations he's chaired.
Whereas most sportsmen dread the thought of hard water, Bob longs for it each
year. Winter's the first time he can sit in a spear house, watching his
new creations swim lazy circles in the water below him, in hopes of drawing
in big northern pike. There is truly no equal when it comes to his abilities
and knowledge of the sport of Minnesota darkhouse spearing. Bob Johnson's
skills are just one more example of the lengths that Brainerd Guide Service
goes through to connect outdoor enthusiasts with the best guides in their
fields.
The Species Bob Fishes For:
Bob is northern pike and whitefish spearing guide. While fishing species in
the summer, his true love in spearing northern pike. Bob promotes selective
harvest of northern pike. Minnesota creel limits for spearing and angling
are the identical (3 fish/day with only one greater than 30” allowed)
Clients are encouraged to harvest fish up to 30”. The larger pike, usually
females, are simply observed and then watched as they swim away. While pike
between four and ten pounds make excellent table fare, pike larger than this
are too valuable of a resource to simply eat.
